Michigan Wolverines Rise in ESPN Recruiting Rankings

Michigan Wolverines have risen to ninth in the ESPN recruiting rankings after adding top-flight recruits to their 2027 class.

The Wolverines added four-star linebacker Frederrick Ford to their roster on Thursday.

What happened?

Michigan football filled out the bulk of its 2027 recruiting class during summer official visit season.

They are still waiting on decisions from highly touted prospects safety Marcus Jones, cornerback Monsanna Torbert, and offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo.

Why it matters for Michigan Wolverines

The new ranking makes Michigan the top-rated Big Ten school, ahead of No. 10 Oregon, No. 11 Ohio State, No. 12 UCLA, and No. 15 USC.

The Wolverines are behind Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida, Auburn, Texas Tech, and Texas in the rankings.

What comes next?

Michigan begins a new era under Kyle Whittingham, who tapped into his Utah roots to land quarterback Kamden Lopati.

Kamden Lopati has demonstrated a high football IQ and sees the field well while possessing a strong arm and good mobility.

The offense should also benefit from the addition of SC Next 300 TE Colt Lumpris, a flip from Alabama.

Colt Lumpris possesses a big frame and can be a tough matchup for defenses as he runs well and can use his size to make contested catches.

Tyson Robinson, a running back out of Mississippi, gives this class another offensive weapon to build on.

The Wolverines have landed several OLs, including SC Next 300 prospects Sidney Rouleau and Jakari Lipsey.

Louis Esposito has made noticeable strides over the past year in build and execution and was OL MVP at the Under Armour Chicago camp tour stop.

Michigan is set to play their next game vs Western Michigan Broncos on 2026-09-05.

The team's recruiting class is shaping up to be a strong one, with several top prospects committing to the program.

The new additions will look to make an impact on the field as the Wolverines head into the new season.
